Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, a renowned singer and entrepreneur, recently shared the sources of his inspiration – Nigerian singer 2BABA, previously known as 2Face, and Jamaican dancehall star Beenie Man.
Mr Eazi revealed that his catchphrase “Zagadat” was derived from lyrics in 2Face’s ‘Nfana Ibaga’ remix featuring Beenie Man.
During an interview with Capital Xtra, UK, Mr Eazi clarified that he doesn’t anticipate any copyright issues as he didn’t use the slang in the same manner as it was originally used in the song.
He said, “Big shout out to Beenie Man. Beenie Man and 2Face. I got my catchphrase ‘Zagadat’ from their song ‘Nfana Ibaga’ remix. From the part, ‘And the Lord said let there be light. Zagazaga za.’ That’s where it’s from, bro.
“I don’t have to give them royalties because I said, ‘Zagadat.’ I didn’t say, Zagagaza za.”
