Manchester United’s striker, Marcus Rashford, will face a significant financial penalty of £650,000, equivalent to two weeks’ salary, after being caught attending a nightclub.
The decision to impose the fine was made by Man United following the incident in Northern Ireland.
Rashford called in sick for training the day after and subsequently missed the team’s victory against Newport County.
Despite being seen at a Belfast nightclub, Man United attributed Rashford’s absence to illness.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, has already stated that he will address the matter.
However, ten Hag did not confirm whether Rashford had lied about the nightclub visit.
Asked about Rashford’s absence after Man United’s 4-2 win against Newport County, Ten Hag said in his post-match press conference: “In what sense? He reported ill, for the rest it’s an internal matter, I’ll deal with it.”
