Beyoncé becomes first Black woman to top U.S. country chart

Beyoncé has broken barriers by becoming the first Black woman to reach Number One on the U.S. country music chart.

The iconic singer surprised fans by releasing Texas Hold ‘Em during the Super Bowl, which quickly climbed to the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

In addition to this historic achievement, Beyoncé also became the second female solo artist to debut a song at Number One on the country chart, following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift.

She has further solidified her place in music history by topping both the Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts, a feat that dates back to 1958 and had only been accomplished by a select few artists.

Texas Hold ‘Em debuted at Number Two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, further showcasing Beyoncé’s dominance in the music industry.

To coincide with the Super Bowl, Beyoncé announced her ninth studio album, Renaissance Act II, which is set for release on 29 March.

This album release was celebrated by the simultaneous drop of Texas Hold ‘Em, setting the stage for yet another milestone in Beyoncé’s illustrious career.

The latter debuted at Number 38 on the Hot 100 and Number Nine on Hot Country Songs.

While some country music stations have refused to play the new tracks, country stars Maren Morris and Lainey Wilson have recently praised Beyoncé’s new crossover.

“I think the leaning into country elements, and sort of reclaiming country music back to Black people, because they created the genre, is such a statement,” Maren told E! News, while Lainey said to Extra, “I love it. The more the merrier.”
