Nigerian singer Joseph Akinfenwa Donus, also known as Joeboy, admitted that he was unprepared for fame when he skyrocketed to stardom.
He expressed his surprise at the rapid international success of his debut hit song, ‘Baby’, which became a sensation just three months after its release.
Joeboy confessed that he didn’t expect people to recognize him so quickly when he became famous. In a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence Podcast, he revealed that his sudden fame forced him to move out of his neighborhood to adjust to his new celebrity status.
The singer said: “I wasn’t ready when ‘Baby’ blew. I had to adapt to get used to fame. It was so sudden. I dropped the song [‘Baby’] in March [2019], and by June I was already doing shows in countries I thought they don’t listen to Nigerian music. Countries like Tanzania, and Uganda. In three months!”
