Mariah Carey gets a new Las Vegas residency

Mariah Carey, aged 54, is making a return to Las Vegas for a new residency called Celebration of Mimi.

The residency will take place at Park MGM from April 12 to April 27. This eight-date event will commemorate the 19th anniversary of Mariah’s successful album “The Emancipation of Mimi” released in 2005.

The album, which was highly acclaimed and considered a comeback, featured numerous hit singles such as “We Belong Together” and “Don’t Forget About Us.”

The Las Vegas shows will include fan favorites from this album as well as other hits from Mariah Carey’s illustrious career.

Mariah Carey herself considers “The Emancipation of Mimi” a significant milestone in her musical journey, describing it as a “special” album.

“When I think about all the different songs on [the album] and the different collaborators, the timing was just right.

“It was the first time I collaborated with The Neptunes, and it was the first time I worked with [James] ‘Big Jim’ Wright as a producer with ‘Circles’ and with ‘Fly Like a Bird’.

“My most sacred memory from that time would be recording the vocals for ‘Fly Like a Bird’ in Capri. I recorded a lot of other [tracks] there, too, but I just remember finishing that song and feeling like there was something so special about it.

“I work at night, especially when I’m singing, so I was watching the sunrise [while] listening back to the song, and I was just like, ‘I’m so proud of this song’.
