EPL: “Don’t judge me yet” – Pochettino tells Chelsea fans

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino, Chelsea’s head coach, encourages fans to avoid making quick judgments based solely on his trophy collection during the early stages of his leadership at Stamford Bridge.

Despite facing criticism from disappointed supporters due to the team’s lackluster performance under his guidance, Pochettino finds himself in a difficult position.

Currently sitting in 10th place in the Premier League, Chelsea is a significant 25 points behind league leaders Liverpool as they prepare to face off in the League Cup final at Wembley this Sunday.

Pochettino is determined to lead Chelsea to their first trophy since co-owner Todd Boehly took over the club from Roman Abramovich in May 2022.

His ultimate goal is to secure a trophy on English soil, a feat he narrowly missed achieving in 2015 as manager of Tottenham when his team finished as League Cup runners-up.

However, Pochettino staunchly advocates against evaluating his tenure solely on trophy counts, emphasizing that success encompasses many factors beyond mere titles.

He points to Jurgen Klopp’s journey at Liverpool, where gradual progress culminated in six major trophies over nine years.

“Klopp was exemplary even before his tenure at Liverpool. He endured several trophyless years before attaining glory,” Pochettino remarked, highlighting the complexity of success in football.
