Afrobeats describe African musicians, not a style of music – Davido

Renowned singer Davido recently shared his perspective on afrobeats, contrasting the popular music genre with RnB.

This comes after fellow artist Wizkid rejected the afrobeat label and advised fans not to listen to his upcoming release.

An old video resurfaced online showing Davido distinguishing between RnB and afrobeats, citing artists like Johnny Drille and Chike as examples of the former.

He also claimed that some of his own songs fall under the RnB category.

In Davido’s view, afrobeats should be associated with African musicians rather than a specific style of music.

He pointed to Odumodublvck as an example, a hip-hop artist from Africa who is labeled as an Afrobeat musician despite his drill sound.
