Nigeria’s wealthiest woman, Folorunsho Alakija and husband reportedly separate

After more than three decades of happy marriage, former society matriarch and now gospel minister Folorunsho Alakija has been hit with a heartbreaking marital crisis.

Reports suggest that the mother of four, also Nigeria’s wealthiest woman, has parted ways with her husband Modupe.

Allegedly, Modupe Alakija no longer sleeps beside his wife in their luxurious Ikoyi, Lagos home amid frequent arguments between the couple. To maintain privacy amid their relationship troubles, Folorunsho requested that her husband find alternative accommodation within the same neighborhood.

Despite attempts to reach Modupe for comment, he remained silent on the situation. Sources indicate that the couple has been facing difficulties in their marriage for quite some time but had been putting on a united front due to their public status.

This latest development is coming barely five months after Folorunsho Alakija, founder of FAMFA Oil Limited, an Oil and gas exploration business has allegedly been battling some health challenges particularly with her eyes.

Family and friends tried as much as they could to put a lid on it just as they tried to with her current marital status.

Folorunsho Alakia’s health challenge became more pronounced when one of her sons tied the knot early last year and very unlike the Alakijas of old, there was little or no noise about the marriage ceremony.

During the wedding, the media was tactically controlled, photographers were not allowed to take pictures arbitrarily and anyone found doing so was asked to delete them.

The planning of the wedding was on a need-to-know basis and guests who got the invitations were well scrutinized.
