The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reinstated Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP.
On Wednesday, the appellate court overruled the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory’s decision, which had earlier barred Abure and two others from serving as national party officers.
However, in the decision issued on Wednesday, Justice Hamman Barka ruled that the high court erred in assuming jurisdiction over the case.
Justice Barka, leading a three-member panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal, delivered judgment in Abure’s appeal against the high court’s verdict, ruling that Abure’s appeal had merit and was thus granted.
He said, “The judgement of the lower court is hereby set aside” Justice Barka held and awarded a cost of N1 million against the respondents to be to Abure.
In related news, The Labour Party had on February 14th suspended its National Treasurer, Oluchi Opara, for six months.
The party’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, announced her suspension at a conference at the LP national headquarters in Abuja.
The suspension was with immediate effect. Ifoh alleged that Opara was being sponsored by the same people who used Lamidi Apapa, Anslem Eragbe, and Yomi Arabambi to derail the party.
