EPL: Nottingham Forest reacts to four points deduction, releases statement

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Liverpool: Awoniyi goal sinks former club

On Monday night, Nottingham Forest made a scathing statement directed at the Premier League following a four-point deduction imposed on them.

The club has fallen into the relegation zone due to a breach of profitability and sustainability rules.

This marks the second instance of a club being penalized this season, with Everton previously receiving a 10-point deduction, later reduced to six after an appeal.

Nottingham Forest is considering filing their own appeal and has expressed strong frustration, arguing that financial regulations will hinder movement within the football hierarchy.

The club released a statement through their website which read: “Nottingham Forest is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Commission to impose a sanction on the Club of four points, to be applied with immediate effect.

“After months of engagement with the Premier League, and exceptional cooperation throughout, this was unexpected and has harmed the trust and confidence we had in the Premier League.

“This reasoning destroys mobility in the football pyramid and the effect of the decision will be to drastically reduce the room for manoeuvre for all such clubs, leading to the stagnation of our national game.

“We believe that the high levels of cooperation the Club has shown during this process, and which are confirmed and recorded in the Commission’s decision, were not reciprocated by the Premier League.”
