Information has emerged regarding the reasons behind the Nigeria Football Federation’s decision to part ways with former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro.
Peseiro revealed on Friday that he was leaving his position as head coach after his contract expired on February 29.
Despite the NFF’s interest in keeping the 63-year-old coach, they were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.
Reports from SCORENigeria indicate that the NFF offered to keep Peseiro on at his current salary of $50,000 per month, but the Portuguese coach demanded a significant increase to $120,000 per month to continue in his role.
“He asked for $120,000 a month salary, but the NFF offered to pay him his current salary of $50,000 instead,” an NFF official informed SCORENigeria.
“That was where negotiations broke down.”
