Tinubu opens land, air borders with Niger Republic

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu ordered the opening of the country’s land and air borders with the Niger Republic.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale.

According to Ngelale, this is in accordance with the resolutions reached by the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government at its extraordinary summit in Abuja on February 24, 2024.

Tinubu also ordered that all other sanctions against the country be lifted immediately.

Among other sanctions imposed on the Republic of Niger, which have now been lifted, is the closure of land and air borders between Nigeria and the Niger Republic, as well as an ECOWAS no-fly zone on all commercial flights to and from the Niger Republic.
