According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude-4.8 earthquake jolted buildings in the New York City area shortly after 10:20 a.m. on Friday.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake’s epicentre was in Lebanon, New Jersey, roughly 50 miles west of Manhattan. The shaking was observed in places ranging from Philadelphia to Boston.
Several East Coast airports ordered ground blocks, which halted flight traffic in the immediate aftermath.
The New York Police Department said it had received no early reports of damage, although sirens could be heard around the city.
