Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has inaugurated Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the state’s new deputy governor.
This comes after Philip Shaibu was impeached by the State House of Assembly on Monday morning.
The impeachment followed the adoption of the report by the Justice S. A. Omonua (rtd)-led panel, which was set up by the Chief Judge of Edo State to investigate misconduct and perjury allegations against Shaibu.
Eighteen out of the 20 lawmakers present voted in favor of the impeachment.
Despite being found guilty of leaking government secrets, Shaibu was not found guilty of perjury.
Following the impeachment, Obaseki swiftly swore-in Omobayo from Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo North Senatorial District to take Shaibu’s place.
