At the coroner inquest held at Ogba Magistrate Court to investigate the death of 12-year-old Dowen College student, Sylvester Junior Oromoni, the coroner attributed his death to negligence by his parents and doctor.
Coroner magistrate Mikhail Kadiri revealed that Oromoni passed away due to inadequate treatment for his enlarged liver.
Oromoni tragically died on November 30, 2021, after reportedly being bullied and forced to drink a poisonous substance at school.
Despite Oromoni’s claims of being beaten by five senior students named Favour Benjamin, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, Kenneth Inyang, and Michael Kashamu, the Lagos State Government cleared them of any involvement in his death on January 5, 2022.
Kadiri said: “Based on the foregoing, it is clear that the deceased’s health deteriorated in (doctor) PW 3’s care. PW 3 did not take proper care of the deceased. PW 3 completely abandoned the deceased for a period of more than 32 hours.
“The deceased’s death was an avoidable one but for the negligence of the parents and PW 3, they didn’t take him to the hospital until the day he died on November 30, 2021. The deceased went through avoidable and excruciating pain and was made to suffer needlessly.”
