On Monday, Melinda French Gates announced that she would be stepping down as co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a position she has held for approximately 24 years.
Following her separation from her former husband and Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, she revealed that she will be receiving an additional $12.5 billion for her philanthropic efforts, with a focus on supporting organizations that empower women and families.
“This is not a decision I came to lightly,” she said in a statement posted on X. “I am immensely proud of the foundation that Bill and I built together and of the extraordinary work it is doing to address inequities around the world.”
Melinda Gates is set to officially leave the foundation on June 7, and she intends to provide more details about her future charitable endeavors soon.
