EPL: Pochettino under pressure as Chelsea Board gives ultimatum

Mauricio Pochettino

The rumors circulating around Stamford Bridge revolve around the current predicament of Mauricio Pochettino, who serves as the head coach of Chelsea, facing a pivotal moment with the looming issuance of an ‘ultimatum’ from the club’s board.

Pressure steadily increases as Chelsea prepares for a thorough assessment of Pochettino’s performance at the conclusion of his first season in charge of the Blues.

The team has encountered various challenges throughout the season, particularly in the Premier League, struggling to maintain a consistent form on the field.

Despite facing criticisms, certain analysts have come to Pochettino’s defense, attributing the team’s setbacks to broader structural issues within the club’s ownership.

While Pochettino successfully guided Chelsea to the Carabao Cup final this season, the team fell short of reaching the FA Cup final after a defeat in the semi-finals to Manchester City. However, his achievements have not shielded him from intense scrutiny.

Currently, Chelsea occupies the seventh position in the Premier League standings, trailing Newcastle United in sixth place by a narrow two-point margin and Spurs in fifth place by four points.

Given these circumstances, reports suggest that Chelsea’s board has presented Pochettino with a clear ultimatum: his job security is contingent upon the team securing qualification for the Europa League.

Failing to meet this requirement could jeopardize Pochettino’s position at Chelsea. In such a scenario, the club might consider exploring other coaching options, with various names already being mentioned, including Jose Mourinho as the top contender, as indicated by Sky Bet, followed by Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon and Roberto De Zerbi from Brighton.
