EPL: 19 clubs vote to keep VAR, make six changes

Premier League clubs to vote on scrapping VAR

On Thursday, at least 19 Premier League teams voted to continue using Video Assistant Referee (VAR) next season. A change would have needed 14 votes from the 20 clubs.

The decision came after Wolves suggested stopping the technology.

The clubs agreed to focus on six key areas to enhance the technology, such as increasing the threshold for technology intervention and minimizing game delays.

A Premier League statement read in part: “Premier League clubs today voted in favour of continuing to operate VAR in the Premier League.

“While VAR produces more accurate decision-making, it was agreed that improvements should be made for the benefit of the game and supporters.”
