Minimum wage: FG, Labour, private sector resume talks

Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Wale Edun,

The Tripartite Committee on Minimum Wage has reconvened discussions regarding a new minimum wage for workers in the country. The committee is currently meeting at NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Representatives from the Federal Government including Wale Edun, Minister of Finance; Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and National Planning; and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of Labour, are in attendance. Additionally, representatives of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and the Head of Service of the Federation are present.

Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, are leading the organized labour delegation. Abdulateef Shittu, Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, also attended the meeting, although no state governors were present at the time of reporting.

Labour had recently called off their nationwide indefinite strike after affecting the economy.
