The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that the National Grid has begun to restore energy supply, hours after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) halted their indefinite strike.
Following the strike halt, TCN stated that power recovery had commenced at the Shiroro Hydropower Substation, which would then restore supply to the Katampe substation.
TCN stated on Monday that the scheduled strike by organized labor was the cause of the nationwide blackout.
“At about 3.23 a.m., TCN began grid recovery, using the Shiroro Substation to try to feed the transmission lines that send bulk electricity to the Katampe Transmission Substation.
The situation is such that the labour Union is still obstructing grid recovery nationwide.
“We will continue to make efforts to recover and stabilize the grid to enable the restoration of normal bulk transmission of electricity to distribution load centres nationwide”, TCN stated on Monday.
Recall that the organized labour on Monday shut down the country’s National grid to press home their demand for a new minimum wage implementation.
However, when filing the report, the power supply is yet to be restored by Electricity Distribution Companies.
