On Saturday, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, House of Representatives Speaker, led a group of lawmakers on a tour of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos.
The purpose of the visit was to show their support for the project and investigate allegations of collusion between international oil companies and the refinery.
Africa’s wealthiest individual, Aliko Dangote, and refinery executives greeted the lawmakers during the tour. They explored the 650,000 barrels per day refinery and received updates on the project’s development.
The visit is timely as Dangote refinery is set to begin supplying petrol next month.
However, there are challenges in accessing the necessary crude oil for production, with suspicions of conspiracy by international oil companies.
To address these concerns, the House of Representatives has decided to establish an ad hoc committee to look into the allegations and investigate NNPC Limited’s inability to acquire a 20 per cent stake in the Dangote refinery.
