Inter Miami’s powerhouse, Lionel Messi, sustained a ligament injury during the 2024 Copa America final and will be sidelined for an extended period.
Miami coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino confirmed the news on Tuesday, revealing that Messi had injured his right ankle.
A subsequent announcement from the MLS club specified that Messi had indeed suffered a ligament injury in his right ankle, with his return to the field dependent on ongoing evaluations and his recovery progress.
Despite Messi’s absence, Inter Miami is set to face Toronto FC and Chicago Fire this week before defending their Leagues Cup title on July 27 against Puebla.
