Nollywood actress Motilola Akinlami has issued a public apology for her previous critique of the renowned historical film House of Ga’a.
House of Ga’a is a historical action drama that delves into the narrative of a powerful kingmaker’s rule over the Oyo Empire, ultimately challenged by his own son. The ensemble cast includes esteemed actors such as Femi Adebayo, Ibrahim Chatta, Bimbo Manuel, Jide Oyegbile, Toyin Abraham, Adeniyi Johnson, Femi Branch, and Funke Akindele, under the direction of the acclaimed filmmaker Bolanle Austen Peters.
Initially, Motilola expressed her thoughts on the film in a now-deleted post, sparking backlash from those who perceived her remarks as an attempt to undermine Bolanle’s creative endeavor.
Clarifying her standpoint on Instagram, Motilola emphasized that her critique was misconstrued as a denigration of someone’s laborious efforts. She affirmed that disparaging artistic work is not aligned with her principles, acknowledging the diligence and expertise invested in crafting such a splendid piece of art, albeit sharing a personal observation that she later retracted.
Upon revisiting her evaluation of the movie, Motilola commended its merits and distinctive attributes, recognizing the multifaceted nature of artistic creations. She acknowledged her limited perspective and extended an apology for it.
Furthermore, the Yoruba actress highlighted the diversity in individual preferences and tastes, emphasizing the subjectivity in assessing creative works.
“Apologies are in order as regards a post I did last week. After due reflection, I realised how that post may have been misconstrued to mean I was trying to bring down someone’s hard work.
That, in fact isn’t the case. It’s not in my character. I recognise the hard work and skill that went into putting together that beautiful work of Art.
I merely made an observation that I took down about 2 mins after I read it again and had a conversation with a couple of people. I see how that may have sounded the way it did.
Having said that, HOUSE OF GA’A is a great movie that has its own flavours and add-ons, as there are many sides to a coin.
I only saw my own side, and for this, I apologise
Again, I’m sorry if that came across the wrong way
I honestly didn’t mean for that to happen.
DIFFERENT STROKES FOR DIFFERENT FOLKS
I should have known better..!
My name is Motilola Akinlami, and HOUSE OF GA’A is a great movie
Have a blessed week ahead..!”.
