Serena Williams, a Compton native, previously dated Canadian rapper Drake in 2015. She is now blissfully married to Reddit’s founder, Alexis Ohanian.
Drake refers to Alexis as a “groupie” on his 2022 song “Middle of the Ocean,” expecting no repercussions.
In reaction, Alexis took to X, then known as Twitter, and said, “The reason I keep winning is because I’m obsessed with being the very greatest at everything I do. This includes being the best groupie for my wife and daughter.”
During Drake’s rivalry with Kendrick Lamar, Serena’s name resurfaced as Kendrick appeared to address Drake’s past rudeness in a diss track.
According to Complex, Serena finally commented on “Not Like Us” during the ESSENCE Festival of Culture, describing the track as her favorite. She mentioned to moderator Cari Champion that it’s her “jam” and makes her want to Crip Walk.
“I love that song. It’s like the hit of the summer. When they play that jam, I’m jamming,” said Williams. “That jam is jamming. You definitely Crip walking in that song. It’s so cool what he did though. Bringing everyone to the stage? That was incredible … I couldn’t believe it.”
