The embattled Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, expressed his belief that his reinstatement was a clear indication that he was chosen by God.
Shaibu stated that despite the attempts of his critics to make him a scapegoat, God had used his reinstatement as proof of his divine selection.
Following his tussle with Governor Godwin Obaseki, Shaibu was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly.
However, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja recently declared his impeachment illegal.
As a result, Shaibu was reinstated and provided with necessary security by the Inspector General of Police to carry out his duties.
Shaibu, speaking after a thanksgiving service in Benin, described the court ruling as a triumph for democracy.
He emphasized that the battle against his impeachment was aimed at safeguarding the role of the deputy governor in Nigeria.
According to Shaibu: “I challenged God and I told Him that I wanted him to prove His power in my life, that people that are anti-God and anti-democracy were at it again and they wanted to use me as a scapegoat. I told God to show to the world that I am truly his son.
“They said they would impeach me and I would go to court and that by the time judgment would come the tenure would have been over.
“So, I challenged God to prove to them that they had touched His anointed and that the judgment would come faster than expected. I said I would need the judgment to come before the election.
“By the grace of God, democracy has come to stay and we that fought for democracy will protect it; anti-democratic forces must be flushed out and we will succeed.”
