The Military issued a strong caution to citizens who are advocating for military rule in the nation.
The warning was delivered by General Christopher Mustapha, the Chief of Defence Staff, during a press briefing following an urgent meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
He also stated that individuals displaying the Russian flag within Nigeria are engaging in an act of treason.
According to CREEBHILLS, some EndBadGovernance protesters were seen waving the Russian flag in certain northern regions, while others were heard urging the military to seize power through a coup.
In response to the actions of discontented Nigerians protesting against poverty and soaring living costs, General Christopher firmly declared that those individuals would face legal consequences.
In particular reference to the coup suggestion, Musa emphasized that the military has embraced democracy and will never allow a change in government through force in Nigeria, cautioning the instigators to cease their efforts.
“All of us have seen it where foreign flags have been flown within the sovereignty of Nigeria, and that is totally unacceptable. We are warning in clear terms and the President has also said we should convey this, that we will not accept anybody, any individual flying any foreign flag in Nigeria.
“That is a treasonable offence, and it will be viewed and treated as such. So nobody shall allow himself to be used by any individual.
“Also the issue of coups, Nigeria is a sovereign nation, Nigeria is a democratic nation all security agencies are here to defend democracy and ensure that democracy continues to strive.
“We will not accept anyone pushing or taking any action, seemingly or for whatever reason, to want to push for any change of government. Democracy is what we stand for, democracy is what will continue to defend”, he said.
