A Gospel-Only World Would Be Dull,’ Says Laolu Gbenjo

Gospel performer Laolu Gbenjo has spoken out on the diversity of music genres, claiming that a world where everyone only sang gospel music would be monotonous.

In an interview with Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, he emphasized the importance of musical diversity, citing how different circumstances require different sorts of songs, such as passionate ballads for weddings and joyful acclaim for joyous celebrations.

“We have to be sincere to ourselves, if everybody sings gospel, the world will be boring. That’s the truth. If anyone is getting married, you don’t expect me to sing gospel all through, there are love songs and celebration praise. It’s just a celebration”, he said.

Gbenjo also shared how the COVID-19 lockdown motivated him to develop a new genre, Alujo Special. During this period, he began composing personalized songs for individuals who submitted their photographs, crafting these unique pieces in his studio.

He additionally mentioned that his father, a pastor, inspired his journey into music.

“I started singing because my father was a pastor”, he said.
