K-pop star Suga has been fined $11,500 (£8,600) for driving under the influence on an electric scooter.
The BTS member was fined 15 million won by a judge in South Korea for the incident, which occurred when he fell off an e-scooter near his home in Seoul.
Suga failed a breath test with a blood alcohol level of 0.227%, above the legal limit of 0.08%.
In a statement, Suga apologized, stating that he was unaware that operating an e-scooter while intoxicated was illegal.
“Although no one was harmed and no property was damaged, this is entirely my responsibility with no excuses,” he said. “I apologise to those who have been hurt by my carelessness and wrongful behaviour, and I will ensure that this does not happen again in the future.”
BTS is currently on hiatus as the members fulfill their mandatory military service, with Suga working as a social service agent due to being unfit for combat duty.
Despite the legal trouble, Suga continues to be a prominent figure in the music industry with hits like Dynamite.
