Dangote Refinery has refuted claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) regarding the price of petrol purchased from its facility. This came after the NNPCL’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, stated that petrol (PMS) was loaded at ₦898 per litre from the refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
Soneye’s comment, quoted by Daily Trust, claimed that, “The initial loading price from the refinery was ₦898 per litre,” contradicting earlier reports that the fuel was purchased at ₦760 per litre.
In a swift response, Dangote Refinery debunked the claim, calling it both “misleading and mischievous.” In a statement by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote, the company urged the public to ignore the statement, asserting that an official price announcement will be made by the government’s Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries on October 1, 2024.
The refinery clarified that the current crude stock was purchased in dollars and was sold to NNPCL at competitive rates, generating savings compared to the import prices. The statement further highlighted that the goal was to ensure fuel availability in all parts of Nigeria, including remote areas, thereby alleviating the persistent fuel scarcity in the country.
“We assure Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country,” the statement concluded.
