Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has officially announced that midfielder Rodri has been excluded from participation for the remainder of the season.
The Premier League club has now ascertained that Rodri sustained damage to his anterior cruciate ligament during the recent draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium.
The 28-year-old athlete has successfully undergone surgical intervention on Friday morning and will not partake in any matches for City until the forthcoming season.
“Unfortunately, we got the worst (news), but it is what it is at this level.
“Sometimes, unfortunately it happens. We are just there to support him.”
This development constitutes a significant setback for City, who are striving to secure the Premier League title for a fifth successive year.
Guardiola’s squad, currently positioned at the summit of the league after five fixtures, is set to compete against Newcastle United in the early kick-off on Saturday.
