Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has sent a strong message to Manchester City and Arsenal regarding the title race this season.
After a dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, van Dijk emphasized that Liverpool are serious contenders for the title. Luis Diaz’s brace, both assisted by Mohamed Salah, put the Reds in control, with Salah adding a goal of his own in the second half.
Van Dijk warned that Liverpool are not just participating in the competition, but aiming to win it, and suggested that Manchester United were fortunate to only concede three goals in the match.
“It’s a proud moment,” he told Sky Sports.
“What pleased me the most was the performance from start to finish.
“We dominated and should have scored more. Winning 3-0 is a big improvement from last year.
“I’m not competing in any competition just to compete. I want to win.
“We came up against a very good team in Man City and Arsenal.”
Liverpool will host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on September 14, after the international break.
