President Vladimir Putin of Russia expressed his willingness to engage in peace talks with Ukraine on Thursday. He mentioned that he was prepared to resume discussions based on a previous agreement reached by negotiators from Moscow and Kyiv in Istanbul in 2022.
According to Putin: “Are we ready to negotiate with them? We have never refused to do so, but not on the basis of some ephemeral demands, but on the basis of those documents that were agreed and actually initialled in Istanbul.”
Putin had previously claimed that Ukraine’s actions in the Kursk region had hindered the possibility of negotiations.
Despite facing threats of international sanctions, Russia and Ukraine have been embroiled in conflict for the past year.
The Russian President made this announcement during a forum in Vladivostok.
