Former militant leader Asari Dokubo has pledged to collaborate with the North in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.
Asari Dokubo expressed his determination following his disappointment with President Bola Tinubu whom he accused of betrayal after supporting him in his 2023 presidential bid.
Asari Dokubo recalled how he used his resources to campaign for Tinubu during the 2023 election, only to feel betrayed in the end.
He warned Nigerians to hold him accountable if Tinubu’s presidency failed.
He said: “I apologise to our fathers because they were not wrong in forming an alliance with the North, and as young men, we will now start that same alliance.
“From today, I will work and form an alliance with the North. President Tinubu betrayed me after I spent all my money and emptied my bank account campaigning for him. The Tinubu I know now isn’t the Tinubu I used to know. We will take this message across that only the Northerners can work with the Ijaw people.
“We can’t work with Yoruba people; they are a betrayal to us. We risked our lives by voting and doing everything, and this is what we get?”
This announcement comes amidst rumors of a coalition forming among opposition parties in Nigeria.
Political expert Pat Utomi had previously mentioned discussions with potential candidates Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso about possibly creating a new political party.
Most recently, Utomi confirmed that Atiku, Kwankwaso, and Obi have agreed to join forces in forming a new political party with the aim of removing the current administration.
