AFCON: Libya appeal CAF’s ruling awarding Super Eagles win in qualifier

Libya appeal CAF’s ruling awarding Super Eagles win in AFCON qualifier

The Libyan Football Federation (LFF) has filed an appeal against the decision made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

CAF had given Nigeria a 3-0 win in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights after the Match Day 4 game was canceled due to issues with the Nigerian delegation.

The LFF believes that the ruling was unjust and has hired Tunisian lawyer Ali Abbas to challenge the decision.

The Super Eagles encountered difficulties when their flight was diverted, leading to a 17-hour delay at an abandoned airport.

CAF blamed Libya for the logistical problems and awarded the match to Nigeria, along with a $50,000 fine for the LFF.

The appeal process is ongoing, with Libya hoping to overturn the decision and secure a rescheduled fixture.
