ASUU holds crucial meeting over nationwide strike

ASUU plans protest of half pay, declares lecture-free day

The national leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, will convene in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja today, Thursday.

This meeting follows a series of warnings issued to the Federal Government by the union regarding unfulfilled promises.

ASUU had given the government a 14-day strike ultimatum on September 24, threatening to close down universities if their demands were not met. This ultimatum came after a previous 21-day notice issued on August 18.

During today’s meeting, the union is expected to present a “State of the Nation” address, leading to speculation, particularly among students, about a possible upcoming strike.
