Omoyele Sowore, a former African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, blasted President Bola Tinubu for spending his yearly vacation in the United Kingdom rather than Nigeria.
Sowore, a human rights activist and coordinator of the #RevolutionNow Movement, questioned whether there is a suitable site in Nigeria, where President Tinubu is now in charge, for him to spend his yearly break.
He also questioned how frequently the President takes annual leave in a year, describing it as amusing that someone who rarely works takes a yearly vacation.
Sowore, in a post on his X account on Wednesday, said, “Tinubu is set to depart Nigeria today on ‘annual leave.’
“Me: Is there nowhere inside Nigeria to spend an annual leave? How often should a person go on “annual leave” in a year?
“Is it NOT funny that a person who barely works goes on ‘annual leave?’”
SaharaReporters earlier reported that President Tinubu would depart Abuja today (Wednesday) for the UK to begin a two-week vacation, part of his yearly leave.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, said the President would “use the two weeks as a working vacation and a retreat to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms”.
Onanuga added that President Tinubu will return to the country after the leave expires.
Following his recent official visit to China and a short stay in the United Kingdom, President Tinubu returned to Abuja on Sunday, September 15.
President Tinubu had departed Abuja for Beijing, China, on August 29, making a stop in Dubai, UAE, before arriving in Beijing on Sunday, September 1, for his official visit.
From China, the President went to the UK for a short stay, where a video surfaced online showing him leaving St Mary’s Hospital in London, which sparked speculations that he was there for an emergency medical treatment.
