Canadian Singer Tory Lanez May Be Released from Jail After Attempted Shooting of Megan Thee Stallion

A new development in his case suggests that Tory Lanez, a Canadian singer, may once again have a future in the music industry.

The rapper was sentenced to ten years in jail for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, a US MC. He is currently jailed at California Correctional Institution.

He sought to retain his musical presence through the Prison Tapes series, but those efforts were also abandoned. Lanez appeared destined to vanish while completing his sentence, until an important update was released on October 25.

This is following an L.A. The Appellate Court acknowledged Tory Lanez’s claim of innocence, implying that his case could be re-examined.

Apparently, DJ Akademiks acquired court documents that verify the acceptance of the appeal.

This acceptance indicates that the District Attorney has a two-week period to respond. However, should the opportunity arise, investigators will re-examine Lanez’s conviction. Specifically, they will probe the claim that the rapper faced an unjust prosecution.

The rapper was convicted of first-degree assault involving a firearm. He was also found guilty of discharging a firearm with gross negligence. Parole will not be an option for him until September 2029.

This marks the first significant update in the Tory Lanez case since July. The rapper’s previous driver, Jauquan Smith, put forth an affidavit stating that he did not actually witness Lanez shooting Megan Thee Stallion.

The defense argued that Smith was prevented from testifying during Lanez’s trial. They also believed that the affidavit was sufficient grounds to seek a retrial.

However, the California prosecutors challenged this motion. Deputy Attorney General Michael C. Keller argued that Smith’s testimony would not have notably impacted the trial’s outcome.
