Acting COAS Oluyede orders probe into video of army officer assaulting couple in Abuja

Tinubu promotes Acting Chief of Army Staff, Oluyede to Lt Gen

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has ordered a probe into a viral video that shows an army commander and two other troops attacking a man and a woman in Abuja.

Vershima Mker and Lami Jennifer, who were preparing for their wedding, accused Major General G.S. Mohammed and Corporal A. Abubakar, among others, of attacking them while visiting relatives in Abuja’s Gwarinpa district.

The lovers, both university graduates, said they were attacked, bruised, and wrongfully jailed without having committed any crimes.

According to their lawyer, Tom Uja, the event occurred when the couple was traveling down 3rd Avenue in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Uja told PUNCH that the lovers tried to make way for the general’s convoy but couldn’t because of the roadside traders.

The lawyer further alleged that the military officers beat the about-to-wed couple, inflicted injuries, handcuffed them and put them in their boot.

The lovers are demanding the immediate dismissal of the officers involved and N150 million in damages as compensation for the physical and emotional harm inflicted on them.
