Ruben Amorim, the newly appointed manager of Manchester United, has disclosed that the Red Devils turned down his offer to join them at the conclusion of the season.
Sporting received approximately £10.6m from United to secure the services of the Portuguese coach, which included additional payments to expedite his release from his 30-day notice period.
His debut match as manager of the Premier League team will be against Ipswich on November 24th.
Despite his initial request to join at the end of the season, Amorim has now confirmed that Manchester United declined his proposal.
“I asked Man United if I could join at the end of the season,” Amorim was quoted by Fabrizio Romano as saying.
“It was what I wanted but Man United said no. It was now or never.
“So I had to make a decision and I said yes”, said — via @PortuGoal1.”
