The French Ligue 1 club, Olympique Lyonnais, has been subjected to a stringent penalty by the Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion (DNCG).
On Friday, the financial regulatory authority of French football determined that Olympique Lyonnais would face a provisional relegation to Ligue 2, in addition to a transfer prohibition and an oversight of their payroll expenses.
This decision was anticipated in light of the reported increase in Lyon’s indebtedness, which escalated from €458 million to €508 million.
At present, the John Textor-owned entity in Ligue 1 faces the prospect of relegation to Ligue 2 should there not be a significant improvement in their financial circumstances.
Consequently, Olympique Lyonnais may be compelled to divest their valuable players, including the highly regarded midfielder Rayan Cherki.
