Premier League clubs have reached a consensus to endorse modifications to the League’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) regulations, marking a substantial setback for Manchester City.
Premier League Clubs such as Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest aligned with Manchester City in opposing the amendments during a shareholders’ meeting held in central London on Friday morning, while the remaining 16 Premier League clubs expressed their support for the changes.
These modifications emerged in response to Manchester City’s legal contestation of the League’s current APT framework.
It is noteworthy that both entities proclaimed success following the conclusions of an Arbitration Tribunal earlier this year
The Tribunal determined that certain existing regulations of the Premier League were deemed “unlawful,” prompting the English top-tier league to initiate revisions at the earliest opportunity after engaging in consultations with clubs and independent experts.
Manchester City had communicated with 19 other clubs in anticipation of the vote.
The Cityzens asserted that the League’s proposed amendments are still “unlawful” and contended that no voting on these amendments should proceed until a comprehensive response from the Tribunal panel is obtained.
