Viktor Gyokeres stole the show with a magnificent hat-trick as Sporting Lisbon defeated Manchester City 4-1 in the UEFA Champions League.
The victory was a fitting farewell for manager Ruben Amorim in his final home game.
City took the lead through Phil Foden, but Gyokeres equalized just before halftime. Maximiliano Araujo scored a fantastic goal after the break, followed by Gyokeres’ two penalties.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged his team’s subpar performance: “We were not at our best, but we have to overcome this situation.”
The loss exposes City’s vulnerabilities ahead of their upcoming challenges. Meanwhile, Sporting Lisbon celebrates a historic win under Amorim’s guidance.
