Bobrisky, a popular Nigerian cross-dresser and social media personality, was recently sentenced to six months in prison following charges of currency abuse and naira spraying, which contravenes Nigerian laws on the handling of currency.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested Bobrisky due to a series of incidents where he sprayed naira notes at various public events, an act seen as disrespectful and illegal under Nigerian currency laws.
During this legal ordeal, Bobrisky expressed gratitude to Nigerian celebrities Ali Baba and Nkechi Blessing for their public support and for checking in on him during his detention.
He acknowledged their actions as a rare show of solidarity amid the controversy surrounding his arrest.
“You were among the few people who stood up for me publicly. Thank you so much for checking up on me.”
Bobrisky’s case has drawn significant media attention because of his public persona and the Nigerian authorities’ stance on enforcing currency handling regulations to preserve the naira’s dignity.
