Aston Villa handed Manchester City a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League on Saturday, thanks to goals from Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers. With this victory, Villa moved up to fifth place in the league standings, while City dropped to sixth temporarily, a position that could fall to as low as ninth by the end of the weekend due to their poor form with nine losses in 12 games across all competitions.
The match started off with high intensity as Aston Villa came close to scoring within the first 20 seconds.
Duran opened the scoring in the 16th minute after a superb through ball from Youri Tielemans found Rogers, who then set up Duran for the goal. It was Duran’s third consecutive league game with a goal.
Rogers extended Villa’s lead in the 65th minute with a well-taken shot after receiving a pass from captain John McGinn. The result left City manager Pep Guardiola visibly frustrated on the sidelines.
City tried to make a comeback through Phil Foden, but Villa held on to secure the important victory.”
