Saida Mouh, the mother of PSG fullback Achraf Hakimi, disclosed that her son confidently believed he would win the African Men’s Player of the Year award, despite ultimately losing to Ademola Lookman.
Hakimi played a pivotal role in securing the Ligue1 title for PSG last season, contributing five goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
The 26-year-old has continued to shine for PSG this season, tallying three goals and seven assists in 20 games.
With his outstanding performances for both PSG and Morocco, there was hope that Hakimi could clinch the African Player of the Year award.
Mouh shared that Hakimi was confident in his victory, leading her to attend the award ceremony with high expectations.
“My son asked me to come urgently to Marrakech to be present at the CAF Awards ceremony,” she told Al-Araby via Fennec Football.
“He spoke with such certainty that he was the winner. Maybe he had been informed before the event, but in the end, the trophy went to Ademola Lookman.”
