Former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) star, Tacha Akide, has revealed the motivation behind her recent move to the United Kingdom, shedding light on the challenges within Nigeria’s influencing industry.
In an interview with British media personality Madame Joyce, Tacha stated that the income from influencers in Nigeria no longer meets the cost of maintaining the expected lifestyle.
“I relocated to the UK because I have conquered the whole of the Nigerian market,” she said. “Relocating to the UK doesn’t mean I’m not going to do Nigerian deals. If the offer is good, why not?”
Tacha further explained the financial strain, noting, “The influencing scene in Nigeria looks so beautiful, but behind the scenes, it’s not as beautiful as it seems because the money is poor. Someone would pay you N6 million, that’s around $3,000, for you to influence for six months and post two videos a month. The fee was the same when I left Big Brother Naija in 2019, but it made sense then. At least, you could book a plane ticket with it. But right now, $3,000 is nothing.”
She emphasized that while N6 million may seem substantial, the reality of converting it to dollars, traveling abroad, and maintaining a luxurious image leaves little to nothing.
Tacha officially announced her relocation on November 26, 2024, signaling a new chapter in her career.
Tacha’s Growing Portfolio
Since rising to fame during the 2019 edition of BBNaija, Tacha has built a multifaceted career in entertainment, exploring fashion, radio hosting at Cool FM, and most recently, sports with the launch of her football club, Tacha FC.
Her move to the UK aligns with her vision of expanding her reach and breaking into international markets, while still maintaining ties to Nigerian deals if they prove lucrative.
