Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy has reacted strongly to the comparisons being made between himself and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
In a defiant message posted on his Instagram story, he emphasized that he does not want to be seen as the heir to Fela or associated with his legacy.
“Also all that Burna Boy and Fela talk needs to die now. I’m not Fela, l’m BIG7. I’m all about positivity, peace and prosperity.” he wrote via his Instastory.
However, he also made a controversial statement in the process.
“Honestly, I’d rather kill you than die for you,” he added.
This response comes as scrutiny surrounding Burna Boy grows, in part due to a recent altercation with fellow artist Speed Darlington.
The two have been in conflict since Darlington reportedly made negative comments about the sisnger, resulting in accusations that Burna Boy had him detained.
