Donald Trump, the President-elect of the United States, recently proposed the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state of the US.
He claimed that many Canadians support the idea due to political turmoil in Ottawa. Trump believes that this merger would benefit Canada financially by saving on taxes and military protection.
He wrote: “Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State.
“They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State.”
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump also mentioned how merging the two countries could address issues such as fentanyl trafficking, illegal immigration, and potential tariffs on Canadian goods.
He discussed this proposal with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during a dinner at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
