Tunde Kelani, a filmmaker, has urged Kunle Afolayan’s KAP Film and Television Academy graduates to embrace teamwork and technology as they launch their filmmaking careers.
Kelani made the statement during an interview on Monday at the Advanced Filmmaking Masterclass graduation ceremony, a three-week intensive program co-sponsored by the French Embassy.
The event, held at KAP Hub in Lagos, brought together 40 budding filmmakers who received training in all facets of filmmaking, including directing, cinematography, screenwriting, acting, editing, and production design.
Speaking on the initiative, Kelani applauded the program’s practical approach, which saw participants split into groups to produce short films.
He encouraged the graduates to stay committed to their craft.
“They have learned their lessons; now they know they can do it,” Kelani said.
“They have also learned that filmmaking is very hard and complex. It is essentially teamwork and collaboration.”
The Saworoide director urged the students to take advantage of modern technology, adding that dedication and continuous learning are key to success.
“Filmmaking is very difficult. It’s going to call for their time, money, and everything. It’s going to be a challenge, but if they stick at it and take advantage of technology, reading and learning, then it’s going to be the best profession for them,” he said.
Kelani also expressed his commitment to mentoring the graduates, citing the importance of passing on knowledge to the next generation.
“I was lucky to have been mentored by great people, and it would be irresponsible of me not to pass on that knowledge,” he added.
“I will always be there for them.”
The program, facilitated by top industry professionals such as actress Bimbo Akintola, screenwriter Tunde Babalola and filmmaker Judith Audu, concluded with participants receiving certificates and celebrating their achievements at a cocktail reception.
