Tragedy as Nigerian Air Force airstrikes mistakenly kill residents, 20 dead

On Saturday, airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force inadvertently struck operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (ZSCPG), local vigilantes, and several residents of the Tungar Kara community in the Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State, in the aftermath of a raid executed by bandits in the vicinity.

Reports from CREEBHILLS indicate that this unfortunate incident, which resulted in the loss of at least 20 lives, transpired shortly after the bandits had vacated the area.

Furthermore, it has been reported that local vigilantes and community members, who had rallied to safeguard their locality, found themselves caught in the crossfire of the airstrike. To date, 16 corpses have been recovered, while the final casualty count remains uncertain as rescue operations persist.

The airstrike, which was aimed at the retreating bandits, inadvertently wreaked havoc on the community, leaving behind profound sorrow and numerous unanswered queries.

Residents of Tungar Kara are now advocating for a thorough investigation into this tragic miscalculation and are seeking assistance for the families affected by this calamity.

Military authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the incident; however, this tragedy highlights the complexities involved in addressing insecurity challenges in Zamfara State.
